Our Story
The history of the Iraqi Telemedicine Center can be traced back to 2013, when Dr. Khaldoon Al-Moosawi initiated the provision of free online medical consultations and counseling. During this period, Dr. Al-Moosawi, then a final-year resident in family medicine at Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia (USA), received numerous requests for second opinions and consultations from Iraqis residing both in his home country and the USA. Recognizing the pressing need, Dr. Al-Moosawi identified telemedicine as a means to connect with a broader patient base and share the high-caliber medical knowledge he was acquiring during his family medicine residency.
In 2013, Dr. Al-Moosawi took the initiative to establish a Facebook page called "Skype with a Doctor" and subsequently founded a non-profit organization in Georgia named Telemedicine Without Borders. However, due to branding conflicts and threats from MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières), Dr. Al-Moosawi decided to dissolve Telemedicine Without Borders in 2016. Undeterred, he continued to provide telemedicine services, eventually establishing the Iraqi Telemedicine Center in 2017.
